The Medical Assistant Certificate Program at Raritan Valley Community College equips students with essential skills in both administrative and clinical tasks, preparing them for a career in health care.

• Administrative and clinical tasks
• Basic administrative skills
• Medical terminology
• Emergency preparedness and procedures
• Clinical skills like vital signs, patient interviews, infection control, and more
• Phlebotomy techniques and procedures
• Pharmacology including drug categories, dosage ranges, and interactions
• Pathophysiology covering disease etiology, symptoms, and treatment

Certification Preparation:

• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Exam by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) exam offered by the American Medical Technologists

Prerequisite Courses:

• Mathematics Proficiency: MATH 020 Elementary Algebra
• English Composition: ENGL 111

Clinical Experience:

• Medical Assistant Professional Practicum providing hands-on administrative and clinical experience in a medical setting

The program length for the Medical Assistant Certificate program is as follows:

• First Semester (Fall): ENGL 111, MATC 111, BIOL 120, HLTH 150
• Second Semester (Spring): MATC 121, MATC 116, HLTH 109, HLTH 107
• Summer: MATC 128

The program consists of a total of 5 semesters, including the summer practicum.
