The medical billing and coding certificate is designed for students seeking jobs that assign medical codes to diagnoses and procedures in health facilities. The program is helpful for people who are seeking first-time employment, career growth or national certification. This certificate prepares students to fill medical billing and coding positions, such as medical billing assistant, medical coder, or medical insurance specialist. Provides fundamental knowledge and skills associated with insurance billing and coding. The curriculum includes courses in college composition, medical coding, and reimbursement, and medical office booking and insurance. Upon completion of this program, students may sit for the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) exam (given at the college for an additional fee), a national accrediting exam sponsored by the AAPC. The program covers various courses including Basic Human Anatomy and Physiology, College Composition I, Medical Terminology I & II, Introduction to Human Pathology, Healthcare Information Systems, Health Records Coding, Managing Electronic Billing in a Medical Practice, and Advanced Coding and Reimbursement.
