The Medical Coding and Reimbursement Specialist Certificate at Green River College provides students with the opportunity to develop skills in ICD, CPT, and HCPCS level II coding, as well as claims and insurance processing. The program prepares students to become entry-level coders and reimbursement specialists. The curriculum includes professional clinical coding and classification systems, life sciences (including Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology, and Medical Terminology), reimbursement methodologies, health information and delivery systems, and legal and compliance rules with an emphasis on HIPAA. Students will also gain field-based or virtual professional practice experience. Upon completion, graduates are eligible to sit for national certification exams such as the AHIMA's Certified Coding Specialist - Physician's Office (CCS-P), AHIMA's Certified Coding Associate (CCA), and AAPC's Certified Professional Coder (CPC).
