The Medical Coding Specialist Program at Coastal Carolina Community College is designed to meet the healthcare industry’s need for professionals with medical coding skills. The program includes Medical Terminology and Medical Coding Specialist classes and is completed in just six months. Students will receive comprehensive instruction on coding manuals, basic coding guidelines and by-laws, introduction to reimbursements, advanced coding processes, and preparation for the American Academy of Professional Coders Certified Professional Coder national examination. The program prepares students to work in healthcare offices, dental offices, hospitals, insurance companies, and independently from home. The program starts every June and September, with preregistration and orientation required one month prior. All of the 2018 and 2019 Medical Coding Specialist students passed the national board exam on their first attempt.
